Stressbusters Inc. has a rich history dating back to its origins in Jacqueline’s Beauty Salon established in 1974. Originally a part of the salon, Stressbusters Inc. was officially founded as a for-profit organization in 1999. However, recognizing the pressing needs of victims of sexual abuse and trafficking, we underwent a significant transformation in 2016, incorporating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to address these critical issues.
Understanding the profound healing power of actively listening to survivors' stories, we embarked on a journey to offer holistic services, including massage therapy, to alleviate stress, enhance sleep quality, and support mental health.
By 2020, we identified a significant gap in holistic support services, particularly within BIPOC communities in North Lake County, IN, where no Holistic Health Centers were available. In response, Stressbusters Inc. applied to become a Mobile Unit with the City of Gary and obtained licensure successfully.
In January 2024, we took a monumental step forward with the opening of Butterfly Touch Spa in Hammond, IN. This milestone was preceded by providing 5,000 free massages using the Mobile Unit, generously funded by Legacy Foundation of Merrillville and the City of Gary ARPA Grant.
Currently, our focus is on expanding our reach and impact by empowering parents and guardians with basic massage therapy techniques. Through this initiative, we aim to equip them with the necessary tools to support their children's well-being in the challenging post-pandemic era.
To ensure ongoing support beyond the project's duration, we plan to establish a support group via Zoom. This platform will facilitate group discussions and private consultations, thereby ensuring continued access to resources and assistance.
Crucially, we are committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability of our projects post-Covid, thereby maximizing their effectiveness and impact on the community.
Through our history, goals, and objectives, Stressbusters Inc. remains steadfastly dedicated to serving vulnerable populations, promoting healing, and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
